Radiologist

Hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend!

We were at our visit with the Radiologist, it was basically a consultation visit. We pretty much knew what to expect (or we thought we did) from the Oncologist visit. The nurse comes in, she goes through questions and concerns with us before the doctor comes in. She tells us how the radiation will work, basically that it would be everyday for 35 rounds. She went over kind of where it would focus, which of course was Mikes tongue area, which included his throat, tonsils, neck, thyroid area, just that whole neck area. I have to say that was scary to hear because that was a lot of radiation that was going to be hitting super sensitive areas. She got Mikes weight because they needed a starting point to monitor how much weight he was losing. The doctor comes in and he sorta says the same thing, he looks in Mikes mouth, feels his throat, neck and such to again get a starting point of where things are at. He tells us that he does not like a feeding tube, most people can do the treatment without it but it was an option. Mike wanted to go into this treatment without the feeding tube (if only we knew!) They were going to make Mikes appointment to go back for scans and to make his mask, he had a to have a special mask made for the radiation (stay tuned for that!) Mike wanted to see the machine that would be used to administer the radiation so the nurse took him over and let him see it, as well as see how it worked to put his mind ease (it was at ease for today!) We had the appointment the following week for the scans and mask. The scan was basically a CT scan of their own, which they needed in order to have trigger points for administering the radiation! The next weeks appointment is when it all began..
